Loyalty programs don’t drive direct growth

Brands typically launch a loyalty program with the idea that it will either get their heavy buyers to spend more or that it will convert their light buyers into heavy buyers.

The reason is that

Brand growth comes from light buyers, and

Instead, Customer loyalty is behavioral.

Can still be useful as a low-cost advertising channel to build mental availability (Marketing must build mental availability) and to collect data.
